WEC 35 kicks off on Sunday, August 3rd, live from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Three world champions will defend their titles in this night of action packed fights. In the main event, Carlos "Natural Born Killer" Condit will battle to keep his belt against Japanese Hiromitsu Miura. The other two featured bouts will see Brian Stann and Jamie Varner defend their illustrious titles.

  • Scott Jorgensen vs Kenji Osawa (Jorgensen wins via Unanimous Decision after 3 rounds)
  • Mike Budnik vs Greg McIntyre (Budnik wins via Triangle Choke at 3:21 in the 3rd round)
  • Shane Roller vs Todd Moore (Roller wins via Guillotine Choke at 3:00 in the 1st round)
  • Blas Avena vs Dave Terrel (Avena wins via TKO (Strikes) at 1:07 in the 1st round)

WEC 35 Main Card Play by Play Commentary

Brian Bowles vs Damacio Page (Bantamweight Bout)

  • Round 1: They waste little time and start trading immediately. Bowles ends up on top on the ground. He sinks in a nice guillotine, pressuring Damacio against the cage but Page slips out. Page, now on top, works to pass. Back to their feet, Page lands a right but Bowles comes back with a couple stiff rights of his own. Page lands a solid leg kick and Bowles shoots but misses. Page shoots in on a single leg and looks to slam Bowles. Bowles maintains his composure and locks in another guillotine. Page’s arms are trapped and he is unable to defend the choke. He is forced to tap.

  • Final Result: Brian Bowles wins via Guillotine at 3:30 in the 1st round.

Jamie Varner vs Marcus Hicks (Lightweight Title Bout)

  • Round 1: Varner throws a right and knee before tying up with Hicks. They exchange takedown attempts and Hicks attempts a guillotine. Varner easily escapes. Hicks slams Varner to the mat but Varner immediately gets to his feet. Varner smashes Hicks with a couple of brutal knees to the chin. Varner tees off with some vicious combinations. Amazingly Hicks survives the onslaught but not for long. Varner continues to pummel Hicks with shot after shot and more knees. Hicks eventually crumbles to the mat unable to fight back. Great display from Jamie Varner.

  • Final Result: Jamie Varner wins via TKO (Strikes) at 2:08 in the 1st round.

Brian Stann vs Steve Cantwell (Light Heavyweight Title Bout)

  • Round 1: After a short feeling out process Cantwell fires off a combo. Stann comes in with a combo of his own and they continue to trade punches. Cantwell rushes in with a big flurry which includes a couple of knees. Stann counters and they tie up against the fence. The striking game continues. Cantwell comes in with another good barrage of punches and once again the tie up. They separate and start to exchange more strikes. Cantwell throws a knee and falls to his back. Stann uses it to his advantage and tees off with some big shots on the ground. Cantwell gets to his feet but time runs out.

  • Round 2: After a few exchanges, the action is halted due to a low blow from Stann. Cantwell doesn’t take much time to recover and the action resumes. The crowd is chanting for Cantwell who lands a nice body blow. He lands another brutal body shot and they end up in the clinch. Both fighters are already showing signs of fatigue. Stann rushes in for a shot but Cantwell denies and they tie up. Cantwell flurries up against the cage landing some nice punches. He stings Stann with a combination and starts to bring the pain. He starts to tee off but Stann is swinging back. He finally drops the champ with a big right hand. He lands a few more strikes on the ground to seal the deal before the ref steps in to wave it off. Cantwell is the new WEC light heavyweight champ.

  • Final Result: Steve Cantwell wins via TKO (Strikes) at 4:01 in the 2nd round.

Carlos Condit vs Hiromitsu Miura (Welterweight Title Bout)

  • Round 1: Condit goes to the body with a nice kick. Miura comes back with a kick to the leg and Carlos counters. They have a nice exchange and Miura attempts a judo throw. Condit lands a nice knee to the body. Miura takes Condit to the mat with a beautiful judo throw. Carlos lands a right hand and ends up on top of Miura on the ground. With Miura’s arm trapped, Carlos starts to reign down elbows. Miura is defending well but is in a horrible position. Condit continues to reign down short shots. Miura tries to buck but Condit keeps him down with knee on belly. Condit attempts an armbar but Miura escapes and gets to his feet. He executes another judo throw and finishes the round in control.

  • Round 2: Carlos misses with a head kick but lands a solid front kick. Miura slips and Condit ends up on top in his guard. Miura misses with a sloppy armbar attempt. Miura connects with a big up kick. Condit goes vertical to pass to half guard. Condit works to pass to side control but Miura is defending well. He tries to buck but in the process gives up full mount. Carlos starts to reign down punches. Miura gives up his back and Condit sinks in the armbar. Miura escapes and ends up in Condit’s guard. The action slows on the ground and the ref stands them up. Miura misses with a throw and Condit takes his back once again. Miura pulls back to guard and Condit gets busy with some small punches to the body, finishing out the round.

  • Round 3: Condit misses with a close guillotine attempt to start the third round but ends up in full mount. He starts to reign down punches, trapping Miura’s left arm. He comes down with some cutting elbows to Miura’s head. Miura explodes and ends up in Condit’s guard. He starts to reign down some big blows while Condit looks for a kimura. He tees off with more big punches and Condit is stunned. Carlos gets to his feet and lands a big knee before the fight is taken back to the mat. Carlos looking for an arm jumps around to Miura’s back. He starts to unload from the mount with big shots. He unleashes with slashing elbows and more punches. Miura once again gives up his back trying to survive the onslaught. Condit looks for the choke but amazingly Miura makes it to the end of the round.

  • Round 4: Condit gets caught with a big right hand and is in trouble early. Miura continues to fire away but Condit gets it to the mat. Miura has a choke but can’t finish it due to fatigue. Miura executes a beautiful sweep and ends up in half guard. He starts to reign down blows and Condit slips in a kneebar. He easily escapes the sub attempt and is back to full guard. The ref stands them up and they immediately start to slug away. Miura exhausted falls back to the mat. Condit ends up in full mount but is extremely fatigued like Miura. Condit is so tired he gets swept again. Miura starts to unload with punches and Condit could be in trouble. He ties up Miura momentarily. Miura lets more punches go. Condit gets to his feet and lands a big shot that sends Miura to the mat. Condit unloads with punches but this time Miura isn’t getting back up. The ref steps in to stop the fight. Definitely the fight of the night. An amazing war between two tough fighters.

  • Final Result: Carlos Condit wins via TKO (Strikes) at 4:43 in the 4th round.

Does anyone know the exact time of Marcus Hicks fight, I had large wager that was placed late and I need proof.

you are in the wrong article. Click on the UFC 87 link on the top right.
plus you need a time and round for the GSp/Fitch fight in case of a tie
