The highly anticipated UFC Fight Night 13 event is ready to go off tonight, April 2, at the Broomfield event center near Denver, CO with the first fight starting at 4:45 ET. Headlining the talent packed fight card will be lightweights Kenny "Ken Flo" Florian and Joe "J-Lau" Lauzon.

  • Anthony Johnson vs Tommy Speer (Johnson wins via KO (Punch) at 0:51 in the 1st round)
  • Roman Mitichyan vs George Sotiropoulos (Sotiropoulos wins via TKO at 2:24 in the 2nd)

Short Recap of the Preliminary Bouts

  • Anthony Johnson vs Tommy Speer: Johnson came out swinging and caught Speer with a right hook that knocked him out cold in 51 seconds.
  • Roman Mitichyan vs George Sotiropoulos: George dominated the first round almost catching Roman in a rear naked choke. The second was more of the same as Sotiropoulos took Roman’s back almost getting the choke. After a quick scramble George finished him off with punches from the full mount.
  • Clay Guida vs Samy Schiavo: After a slow start Guida shot in for his patented takedown easily took full mount. He finished Samy from there with short punches, elbows and finally some big left hands to seal the deal.
  • Jeff Cox vs Manny Gamburyan: After clinching with his foot taller opponent, Manny finally scores a hip toss takedown. He quickly sinks in a guillotine and ends the fight.
  • Marcus Aurelio vs Ryan Roberts: After dropping Roberts with a big punch, Aurelio finishes him off with an 18 second armbar.
  • Josh Neer vs Din Thomas: Neer gets the better of Thomas with the stand up exchanges. Thomas is surprised with a takedown and Neer scores some ground and pound. Din scores a takedown as well but does nothing with it and the first round is over. Neer takes the second round as well landing some nice elbows on the ground. In the third Neer lands a big elbow that opens a big cut forcing the doctors to check it out. The fight continues and Neer continues to punish Thomas on the ground with more elbows until the round ends. Neer easily secures the unanimous decision taking all three rounds 10/9.

UFC Fight Night 13 Main Card Play by Play Commentary

James Irvin vs Houston Alexander (Light Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: James Irwin lands a superman punch that rocks Houston and drops him to the mat. Irvin pounces on him and finishes him off with a few more big shots that causes Alexander to go limp.
  • Round 2:
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: James Irvin wins via TKO (Strikes) at 0:08 in the 1st round.

Kurt Pellegrino vs Nate Diaz (Lightweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Kurt gets a quick takedown and Diaz gives up his back. They scramble and Kurt ends up in Nate’s half guard. Diaz immediately gains full guard. Kurt lands a couple of nice shots from guard. Kurt lands a big right hand and gains side control. He then unleashes a barrage of right hands and Diaz is now very bloody. Pellegrino lands a big elbow and continues to land shots. Nate rolls and Kurt takes his back with hooks in. Diaz works for a takedown and they clinch. Diaz lands some small shots and a few knees to the leg of Kurt. A quick trade and the round is over. I score it 10/9 for Kurt.
  • Round 2: They come out trading for round two. Pellegrino takes down Nate into full guard. Nate goes for a kimura from the bottom but Kurt pulls out. Nate active from the bottom gives Kurt his back and Kurt obliges. Pellegrino slams Kurt but lands right into a Diaz triangle. Diaz knows it is over by letting the crowd know and Kurt is forced to tap. What a comeback for Diaz.
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: Nate Diaz wins via Triangle Choke at 3:06 in the 2nd round.

Matt Hamill vs Tim Boetsch (Light Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: They both come out trading and Hamill gets the takedown. After some ground and pound from Hamill the ref stands them back up. Boetsch lands a couple of good knees to the body. They start trading big bombs and Tim lands a nice knee to the head of Matt. Boetsch is starting to look tired and Matt is starting to bleed out of his mouth. Tim lands another huge knee but Matt comes back with a nice punch. Hamill lands a nice uppercut combination and keeps coming forward with punches. It was a close round that could go either way. Hamill has a nasty cut on his lip from a Boetsch knee.
  • Round 2: Matt lands a nice combo and Hamill slips. Tim lands a big right hand as they start to slug it out again. TIm shoots for a takedown but ends up underneath Matt who starts to reign down punches. Hamill starts to tee off and pounds out the finish with big left and right hands.
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: Matt Hamill wins via TKO (Strikes) at 1:25 in the 2nd round.

Thiago Alves vs Karo Parisyan (Welterweight Bout)

  • Round 1: After a few punches traded, Karo gets the body lock and takes down Alves into side control. Karo gets full mount momentarily. Karo lands a couple of shots. Alves stands up and avoids another takedown. Karo lands a nice punch kick combo. They both start to lands some nice shots. Parisyan shoots but is denied and they clinch. They break apart and Karo eats a nice punch. Alves lands a few more nice shots as they continue to trade. Karo sweeps and almost gets the takedown. I score the round 10/9 for Karo.
  • Round 2: Karo throw a nice head kick to start things out. Alves lands a big knee that drops Karo and he finishes him off with punches before the ref steps in. Karo jumps up very upset at the stoppage.
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: Thiago Alves wins via TKO (Strikes) at 0:34 in the 2nd round.

Gray Maynard vs Frank Edgar (Lightweight Swing Bout)

  • Round 1: They both trade some shots with nothing landing and Maynard stuffs a takedown. They continue to trade with nothing serious landing. Both are afraid to really commit to anything serious yet. Maynard shoots and scores a takedown. Edgar stands up but Gray has his back and takes him down again. Maynard comes down with a nice right hand. Gray postures and they scramble. Maynard looks for a guillotine but can’t sink it. Gray lands a solid jab and the round ends. I score it 10/9 for Maynard.
  • Round 2: They start to bang it out again to start things off. Frank shoots but Maynard stuffs the attempt. Maynard gets a single leg and takes down Edgar who works to escape up against the fence. Edgar gets to his feet and connects with a shot. Both fighters are light on their feet as they continue to trade combos. Edgar scores a beautiful throw takedown but Gray gets right back to his feet. Gray comes in with a quick combo and lands a nice left hand. Gray shoots and gets the takedown. Frank immediately looks for a kimura with Gray in side control. Frank has the kimura but time runs out before he can extend Gray’s arm. I score it 10/9 for Edgar. It is anybody’s fight right now.
  • Round 3: Gray lands a nice right hand but Frank counters. Maynard shoots and they scramble ending up in a clinch against the fence. Edgar throws a nice combination. Edgar goes in for a shot but is denied and Maynard ends up taking down Frank. Edgar stands back up but is instantly slammed right back down to the mat. Gray gets the body lock again and slams Frank again taking his back. He gets one hook in momentarily. They clinch up against the cage and Edgar lands a nice combo. Gray shoots again and takes down Frank into mount with 90 seconds left. He loses mount but is controlling the action in round 3. Edgar is looking for another kimura but loses it. Gray stays on top and comes down with a shot. He gains side control and throws a knee to the body. Gray finishes the round in half guard with not much happening. I score this round 10/9 for Maynard. I would score the fight 29/28 for Gray Maynard.
  • Final Result: Gray Maynard wins via Unanimous Decision after 3 rounds.

Kenny Florian vs Joe Lauzon (Lightweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Fighters don’t waste anytime getting started as they don’t even touch gloves. Lauzon takes down Florian and lands a couple of illegal elbows to the back of the head that cut open Joe. The fight is stopped momentarily but then resumes. Kenny lands a brutal body kick and in a scramble takes Joe’s back. He then ends up in side control. Florian starts to drop nice short tight elbows and Lauzon scrambles back to his feet taking Florian down to the mat. Kenny goes for an omaplata and gains side control. Kenny gets back to half guard and throws a couple of hammer fist. Joe is looking for a knee bar and ends up going for a heel hook but misses. They are back to their feet and Kenny shoots. He gets Joe’s back as they clinch. Kenny drags Joe down but ends up on the bottom. Joe goes for a heel hook but can’t finish it and Florian finishes the round with some hard shots to Joe’s head. It was a crazy round that could go either way. I will score it 10/9 for Lauzon.
  • Round 2: After trading some shots Florian secures the takedown. Kenny gains full mount and starts to tee off on Lauzon. He starts to drop elbows and Lauzon gains side guard. Kenny continues to pound away and regains full mount. He starts to reign down more blows and continues to pound away at Joe’s face. He gains full mount again and starts to reign down more blows but Joe is doing very good defensively. Florian tees off trying to finish the fight. He continues to pound away and finally the ref steps in to save Lauzon although Lauzon didn’t look worse for the wear once it was over.
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: Kenny Florian wins via TKO (Strikes) at 3:28 in the 2nd round.

12 fights 2 descions! nate diaz was awesome so was ken-flo, felt bad for karo too. This was the best fight night ever
