Following the trend of free UK based shows, UFC fans will once again have the chance to pocket their $44.95 and watch UFC 89 via tape delay on Spike TV. According to MMAJunkie.com, a source close to the event confirmed that the three hour broadcast will air five hours after the event takes place at the NIA in Birmingham, England. |

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer also reported that the UFC has plans for a PPV event the weekend after UFC 89. The organization will use the Spike TV broadcast as a marketing tool for that event which we assume will be UFC 90. In addition to the main event which features a bout between strikers, Michael Bisping and Chris Leben, another top shelf match up has been reported. According to MMAWeekly, a bout between Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez and Thiago "Pitbull" Alves will likely earn a spot as the co-main event of the night on October 18th. Contracts are expected to be signed later this week according to a source close to Alves. The "Pitbull" is currently a top contender for the welterweight title and for good reason. He is on a six fight win streak in the UFC and most recently defeated the former seven time defending welterweight champion of the world, Matt Hughes, in dominating fashion. Alves is desperate for the gold and even begged the UFC for his shot at the title after his TKO victory over Hughes. Diego Sanchez is looking to get back to his true form with a decisive win over Alves. After suffering back to back losses to Koscheck and Fitch in 2007, Diego has turned things around in 2008 and looks to carry that momentum into this bout. Sanchez has always been strong in the mental department but three wins in a row would give him just the push he needs to be the "Nightmare" of old. For both of these fighters, losing is not an option, which makes for a very exciting fight. With only 5 losses between the two, you can expect just that. Stay tuned for more exciting MMA news! |
