UFC 84 "Ill Will" is set to go off Saturday, May 24, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
In one of the most anticipated lightweight matches of all time, Sean the "Muscle Shark" Sherk, will battle "The Prodigy" BJ Penn for the lightweight championship belt that he feels was unrightfully taken away from him.
Also on the card is "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz who would like to send one final FU to his arch rival Dana White with a victory over undefeated, Lyoto Machida, in his fair well match.

Short Recap of the Prelims:
- Christian Wellisch vs Shane Carwin: Carwin is aggressive from the start with punches. He lands a right cross that puts Wellisch instantly to sleep at 0:44.
- Jason Tan vs Dong Hyun Kim: After taking the first and second round from Tan, Kim takes care of business in the third, tossing Tan to his back and elbowing him into submission at the 25 second mark.
- Jon Koppenhaver vs Yoshiyuki Yoshida: After a swift judo throw from Yoshida and a scramble, Jon falls into a guillotine that Yoshida transitions into an anaconda choke, sending "War Machine" to la la land in under a minute.
- Rich Clementi vs Terry Etim: After scoring a takedown in the first Clementi gets dropped with a solid punch. He avoids a few guillotine attempts in the second and with a combination of takedowns and top control pulls out the unanimous decision after 3.
- Rameau Sokoudjou vs Kazuhiro Nakamura: After a long feeling out process with little action besides Rameau landing a couple of solid leg kicks, the crowd starts to boo. With only seconds left in the round, Sokoudjou lands a kick-punch combo that drops Nakamura. Kazuhiro makes it to the end of the first round but is unable to continue. Sokoudjou calls out Shogun in his post fight interview.
- Ivan Salaverry vs Rousimar Palhares: Palhares makes quick work of Ivan, getting the takedown and moving right into mount. Salaverry gives up his back and is forced to defend the choke for over a minute. He attempts to escape but gets caught in a beautiful armbar and is forced to tap at 2:36 in the first.
UFC 84 Main Card Play by Play Commentary
Thiago Silva vs Antonio Mendes (Light Heavyweight Bout)
- Round 1: Mendes lands a powerful head kick that rocks Silva even though it was blocked. He goes off with a barrage of punches but Silva stays calm and regains his composure. Mendes goes for a Judo throw but slips and Silva ends up on top. Thiago passes to mount and lands a good right hand. He starts to tee off and lands a brutal elbow. Mendes gives up his back but Silva rolls him right back and tees off with big left hands forcing Antonio to tap.

- Final Result: Thiago Silva wins via Submission (Strikes) at 2:24 in the 1st round.
Tito Ortiz vs Lyoto Machida (Light Heavyweight Bout)
- Round 1: Lyoto strikes first with a leg kick that lands. Tito shoots for a leg but misses the shot. Tito misses with a combo. Ortiz comes in and throws a knee in the clinch. Lyoto shrugs another takedown attempt off. Tito lands a right and they clinch for a second but break away. Lyoto throws a nice head kick. Machida spins away from another attempt from Tito to get in close. Lyoto throw a nice switch kick. Machida takes Tito down with ease into side control and puts a punctuation mark on the round with a barrage of left hands to the face of Tito.
- Round 2: Round two starts out slow and technical with few strikes. Lyoto lands a nice body kick. Machida is very quick and crisp with his strikes. Ortiz can’t seem to figure out Machida and the crowd is getting restless. Tito lands a body kick. He shoots in for a takedown but ends up pulling guard. They are quickly back to their feet to continue the stand up game. Tito’s left eye is bloodied up. He stands taunting Lyoto. Machida signals for Tito to come on and Ortiz does finishing the round with a body kick.
- Round 3: The only action so far in the first comes from referee Yves Lavigne who falls down and quickly jumps back to his feet. They clinch and Ortiz lands a knee to the body followed by a couple of nice body shots. Tito lands a hook and grabs the muay thai plum, throwing some knees. Tito starts to dirty box inside. Tito grabs a leg but Lyoto denies and they are right back into the clinch against the cage. The ref separates the fighters for inactivity. Lyoto lands a big knee to the body that crumbles Ortiz. He pounces on Tito and starts to unload with strikes. He continues to ground and pound with under a minute left in the round. Tito sinks in an amazing triangle and transitions into an armbar that Machida barely escapes. Tito throws some short shots from the bottom to finish the round out.
- Final Result: Lyoto Machida wins via Unanimous Decision after 3 rounds.
Wilson Gouveia vs Goran Reljic (Light Heavyweight Bout)
- Round 1: Gouveia strikes first with a good inside leg kick. He lands another nice leg kick. Reljic almost connects with a nice head kick. Goran lands a nice body kick followed by another head kick. They start to swing and Reljic counters nicely. Another nice left body kick lands from Reljic. Both fighters connect with punches. They trade kicks with Reljic getting the better of the two. Reljic again fires the head kick that’s blocked but Gouveia’s arm is taking a lot of abuse from blocking. Gouveia lands a good right hand and starts to come forward with good combos. Reljic, in trouble, jumps and pulls guard. Goran works for an omaplata and the round ends.
- Round 2: Gouveia misses with the first combo. Reljic fires another head kick that barely misses. Gouveia starts to unload with a flurry of punches. Gouveia lands a left hook that rocks Reljic. Gouveia unloads with an assault of elbows and punches up against the fence. In half guard Gouveia comes down with a couple more shots. Reljic gets back to his feet but eats a right hand. Reljic lands a left hand and Gouveia goes down. Goran pounces and begins to unload with a flurry of strikes forcing the ref to step in and stop the fight.
- Round 3:
- Final Result: Goran Reljic wins via TKO (Strikes) at 3:15 in the 2nd round.
Wanderlei Silva vs Keith Jardine (Light Heavyweight Bout)
- Round 1: Keith comes in with a left jab. Silva unleashes with a combo that rocks Jardine. He follows up with more brutal hooks sending Jardine to the mat. He jumps on him and unloads with an assault of brutal right hands. The ref is forced to jump in and save Keith from certain death. Jardine is out cold on his back.

- Final Result: Wanderlei Silva wins via KO (Punches) at 0:36 in the 1st round.
BJ Penn vs Sean Sherk (Lightweight Title Bout)
- Round 1: BJ lands a couple of shots and Sherk shoots but is denied. They start to trade. BJ lands a stiff left jab. Sherk comes back with a nice combo. They exchange again with both landing shots. BJ continues to land that stiff left jab. BJ lands a good right hand and another good jab. BJ’s jab looks amazing. Sherk lands a nice counter kick. They trade shots once again. BJ seems to be pacing himself for the 5 rounds. Penn lands a good right hand followed by another stiff jab. They clinch momentarily and then continue to trade. BJ lands another jab and the round is over.
- Round 2: They immediately pursue the stand up battle coming out trading. BJ lands a good combination. Sherk lands some good shots inside during a spectacular exchange. So far it is a total boxing match. Sean comes in a lands a nice body shot. Sherk lands a left hook. Sean’s left eye is bloodied up good as they continue to go toe to toe with strikes. Sherk continues to eat BJ’s jab. Another good exchange. Sean lands a good leg kick but gets countered with a right hand. Sean is bloodied up under both eyes now. BJ throws a nice kick. Sean goes for a leg but BJ shrugs it off. Another solid round for Penn.
- Round 3: They come out swinging. BJ throws a good combo. Penn lands a couple of nice uppercuts inside. Sherk lands a nice stiff jab. Penn lands a good body shot. BJ shoots but can’t execute the takedown. Both land some nice shots during a flurry. BJ lands a good solid leg kick. Penn lands a solid right hand. BJ continues to get the better of the standup. Sherk shakes out his right hand indicating it is hurt. BJ keeps working his jab. Sherk can’t seem to throw his right hand anymore. Penn lands an uppercut followed by a brutal flying knee rocking Sean Sherk. Penn pounces on Sean and finishes with a flurry of punches before the bell sounds. The ref almost stepped in but didn’t. BJ seems to think it is over anyway and tells the ref that Sherk is done. The ref makes it official and the fight is over.

- Final Result: BJ Penn wins via TKO (Flying Knee, Punches) after 3 rounds.
