UFC 83 "Serra vs St. Pierre 2" is ready to explode from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada on Saturday, April 19.

As if the pressure of a world championship belt isn’t enough, Georges St. Pierre will do battle in front of his hometown crowd of 20,000 plus screaming fans. Other top Canadian fighters joining Pierre on the card include Kalib Starnes, Jason MacDonald, Sam Stout and Jonathon Goulet.

• Kuniyoshi Hironaka vs Jonathon Goulet (Goulet wins via TKO (Punches) at 2:07 in the 2nd)
• Brad Morris vs Cain Velasquez (Velasquez wins via TKO (Strikes) at 2:10 in the 1st round)

Short Recap of the Prelims

• Kuniyoshi Hironaka vs Jonathan Goulet: In the first round, both fighters exchanged knees. Goulet executed a nice judo throw and Hironaka landed a nice left hand. Goulet begins the second round with a mouse under his right eye. Hironaka gets rocked by a left hand and then crumbles after a solid left right combo that did the most damage of the fight. The ref stepped in to save Hironaka from punches at 2:07 in the second.
• Brad Morris vs Cain Velasquez: Morris got dropped early on by a solid left hook from Cain. Velasquez immediately followed that with a ground assault of strikes from the top. Morris makes his way back to his feet but meets a knee and a uppercut that sends him back to the mat. Velasquez finishes him off with strikes and the ref jumps in to stop the fight at 2:10 in the first round.
• Rich Clementi vs Sam Stout: Clementi spent the first round on top working some effective ground and pound. Stout exploded to his feet but was taken right back down and threatened with a kimura. Stout starts to get some strikes in during the second round but Clementi fires back. Stout eats a solid left hook from Rich but shakes it off and scores a takedown. Clementi tries for a guillotine but can’t deliver and Stout finishes the round with a few good punches. Clementi starts out the third with a takedown and a guillotine attempt. After some trading Stout lands a right hand. Clementi lands a solid head kick and Sam returns with a hard right to finish the round. Clementi takes the split decision 29-27, 29-28 for Rich and 29-28 for Stout.
• Ed Herman vs Demian Maia: Maia got the early takedown but Ed eventually ends up on top where he is met with a omaplata attempt from Maia that is pretty close. Herman escapes but Maia then goes for a leg lock. Ed escapes that as well and it is a very close first round. Maia opens the second round by pulling guard but Herman backs out and lands a nice left hand. Herman makes a huge mistake and enters Maia’s butterfly guard. Maia doesn’t waste time and throws his legs up securing a triangle. Herman can’t escape and ends up on his back. He refuses to tap and the ref jumps in to save an unconscious Ed Herman at 2:27.
• Jason Day vs Alan Belcher: Alan starts out round one by throwing Day up against the cage ending up in top position. They stand and Belcher gets rocked with an elbow. Day smelling the blood rushes Alan with a barrage of punches while Alan backs up and the ref steps in to stop the fight at 3:58 in the first.
• Joe Doerksen vs Jason MacDonald: Doerksen almost got caught in an early standing guillotine attempt from MacDonald but escaped. Joe locks in a deep kimura which Jason finally escapes but he pays with a bevy of hard knees to the body from side control. Doerksen takes the round with another kimura attempt a the end of one. MacDonald avoids a big overhand right and takes Joe down to start out round two. Jason unloads with a flurry of hammer fists and the ref jumps in to save Doerksen from further damage at 0:54 in the second. Unfortunately for Joe, MacDonald landed two more hammer fists after the fight was definitively over.

UFC 83 Main Card Play by Play Commentary

Mark Bocek vs Mac Danzig (Welterweight Bout)

• Round 1: They start to circle and Danzig comes in with a combo. Bocek lands a nice shot. Mark shoots for a single leg while Mac looks for a kimura. Bocek finishes the takedown and ends up in full guard. He begins to tee off with some punches. Danzig looks for the triangle and switches to an omaplata. Bocek tees off and Danzig works to get to his feet. Mark takes Mac’s back and drags Danzig to the canvas. They scramble and Bocek ends up on top in half guard. He postures up and comes down with a shot. Bocek has him pinned up against the cage. Danzig reverses and lands a couple of shots. Mac now on top starts to reign down some blows. Danzig finishes on top. I score it 10/9 for Bocek.
• Round 2: Danzig lands a huge perfectly timed knee that rocks Mark and ends up on top. He starts to work some good ground and pound. Mac lands another knee off of the single leg as Bocek works for a single leg. Mac sprawls and ends up in guard. Bocek is hurt and Danzig passes to full mount and then takes his back. He stretches out Mark and starts to work for the choke. He starts to land some shots and now has both hooks in. He starts to tee off with punches. Danzig lets him up and they start to trade. Bocek comes in with a nice combo and then shoots for a single. Danzig takes Mark’s back again and starts to land shots. Bocek now bloodied is starting to take some major abuse. Dominant round from Danzig.
• Round 3: Danzig catches Mark with a big right hand. Bocek comes in with multiple rights and shoots for a single. He finishes the takedown into full guard. Danzig works for a gogoplata but loses it. Bocek starts to grind Danzig with some nice punches. They clinch and Danzig lands a knee that opens up Bocek who starts to pour blood. Danzig hurts him with a big punch and Mark turns his back. The ref stops the fight to check the cut which is huge over Bocek’s left eye. Mark has huge heart to still be in this. Mac starts to land some left hands and a straight right. Mac trips Mark and takes full mount and then his back. Mac sinks in the choke and ends the fight. This fight was a complete war from start to finish.
• Final Result: Mac Danzig wins via Rear Naked Choke at 3:48 in the 3rd round.

Charles McCarthy vs Michael Bisping (Middleweight Bout)

• Round 1: Bisping lands a right looks light on his feet. Bisping grabs the muay thai plum and unloads with an assault of knees followed by some uppercuts. Charles taunts Michael with some smiles. Bisping is extremely fluid and smooth. He lands a knee and an uppercut. He is starting to pick Charles apart as the crowd starts to cheer. McCarthy gets a huge takedown driving Bisping to the canvas up against the fence. Charles works for the pass and goes for the back then transitions for an armbar. He locks it in tight and Bisping is in trouble but staying calm. He escapes and starts to tee off. Bisping continues to land combos and a nice head kick. Bisping unloads with an amazing assault of punches, knees, body shots and Charles drops to the canvas. The round ends but the fight is called. McCarthy is laying on the mat holding his arm. He cannot continue.

• Final Result: Michael Bisping wins via TKO (Ref Stoppage) after 1 round.

Nate Quarry vs Kalib Starnes (Middleweight Bout)

• Round 1: Quarry starts things out with a nice body shot as he presses the action. Nate rushes Kalib with punches and they clinch. Quarry lands another nice body shot. Kalib is running away as Nate continues to stalk him with punches. They clinch and Nate lands a good knee inside up against the fence. Nate comes in with good punches and lands a solid leg kick as Starnes continues to run away. Starnes hasn’t mounted any type of offense as of yet. Quarry lands a solid leg kick and another before the rounds ends. Easy round for Nate Quarry 10/9.
• Round 2: Starnes comes in with a combo and Nate returns with a leg kick. Nate lands a solid combo. They continue to throw with nothing really landing. The pace is slowing down and the crowd lets them know. Quarry comes in with another good combo finished with a leg kick. Starnes is doing nothing but retreating. Nate continues to hack away at Kalib’s right leg which has to be taking it’s toll. Kalib goes for a weak takedown that is shrugged off. Starnes almost gets a takedown but Quarry is immediately back to his feet. It’s a one man show as Nate is picking Kalib apart with strikes. Starnes looks like he has absolutely no game plan. Nate lands another brutal leg kick. The fans start to chant Quarry because of Kalib’s lackluster performance. Another round for Quarry.
• Round 3: Nothing happening in round three as Quarry continues to chase Kalib around landing punches and kicks. Nate comes in with a combo landing. Two minutes have passed with hardly any action. At this point it’s a game of cat and mouse. Starnes switches his stance because of the leg kicks and actually lands a leg kick of his own. Quarry lands a combo and almost lands a knee to the head of Starnes. A very patient crowd is starting to boo. Nate lands a nice right and a leg kick that hurts Starnes. Nate taunts Kalib with a running man technique and a retarded man striking technique. The round ends and Starnes won’t shake the hand of Quarry. Starnes has some words for Quarry. The judges score the fight 30-26, 30-27, 30-24 all for Nate Quarry.
• Final Result: Nate Quarry wins via Unanimous Decision after 3 rounds.

Travis Lutter vs Rich Franklin (Middleweight Bout)

• Round 1: They clinch and Rich catches Lutter with a shot but Travis recovers quickly. Travis goes for a takedown and Franklin sprawls nicely. Lutter takes Franklins back early and drags him down to the mat. Rich works his way out of back control and now Lutter is in half guard. He passes to full mount but Rich avoids it. Rich scrambling regains half guard as Travis works for better position. He passes right into mount with a lot of time left. He starts to land some shots and sinks in an armbar. Rich amazingly escapes the near finishing armbar with beautiful technique and the crowd goes crazy. Lutter is relentless with a single leg trying for the takedown. They clinch and Rich finishes with a knee. I score it 10/9 for Lutter.
• Round 2: Rich lands a nice knee and a punch that has Lutter scrambling. Travis is looking fatigued and Rich wobbles Lutter with a head kick. He looks to finish but Travis looks for a leg lock in the scramble. Rich escapes and the they restart on their feet. Rich lands some brutal knees and a right hand. Franklin is starting to pummel Lutter with shots and Travis is completely gassed. Rich lets Travis up and lands a big left hand and a brutal combo. He lands a vicious combo that drops Lutter and Rich finishes him off with strikes.
• Round 3:
• Final Result: Rich Franklin wins via TKO (Strikes) at 3:01 in the 2nd round.

Matt Serra vs Georges St. Pierre (Welterweight Championship Bout)

• Round 1: Pierre goes right for the takedown and gets to half guard. He starts to land some short right hands. Pierre works to pass the guard but Serra regains full guard. George postures and lands a big shot. Serra lands a nice elbow from the bottom. Pierre postures and lands a big left right combo. He gains half guard and continues to control Matt who eats an elbow. Pierre lands a nice left hand and passes to side control. He starts to reign down hammer fists and keeps dragging Serra down to the mat riding him. He lands a nice knee and they are back to their feet. Matt goes to the body and Pierre lands a nice superman punch, kick combo. Pierre finishes the round with a knee to the body.
• Round 2: Pierre lands a right and takes Serra back to the mat. Serra tries to stand but Pierre sucks him back down to the mat. George continues to control Serra with his wrestling. Serra avoids a nice takedown attempt with great balance. Serra lands a nice head kick and throws a good combo. Serra eats a jab and gets taken down into half guard. Pierre has Matt’s back momentarily but goes back into guard. He lands a nice left hand and a big elbow. George starts to chip away with punches as Serra covers up. He continues with the ground and pound and passes to half guard and then into side control with ease. He keeps landing punches and then comes in with the knees. He starts to unload with a flurry of knees to the body and the ref steps in to stop the fight. The crowd goes completely wild. Serra shows a lot of class congratulating Pierre, then picking him up and carrying him around the cage.
