UFC 82 kicks off this Saturday night at 10pm ET/PT live on PPV from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH. Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva will battle it out to see who is officially the undisputed king of the middleweight division.

We will be covering all of the action for UFC 82 including quick results and play by play commentary for the main PPV card.

Quick results for the prelims will begin at 8:00pm ET and live play by play commentary for the main televised card will begin at 10pm ET sharp.

Important news, announcements, and interesting moments during UFC 82

  • Mark Coleman was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Rogan spoke to him after and he announced his comeback into the UFC in August. He also announced that his opponent will be Brock Lesnar.

Short Recap of the prelims

  • John Halverson vs Jorge Gurgel: Round one Gurgel landed some nice low kicks. Halverson attempted a guillotine but was denied and pounded by Jorge for the remainder of the round. In the second round Gurgel got the better of John almost getting a stoppage at one point from punches. Round three Gurgel controlled from top position but didn’t do any damage. Halverson finished with a decent punch but it wasn’t enough. Gurgel takes all three rounds and wins the decision.
  • David Bielkheden vs Diego Sanchez: Sanchez started out the round with a takedown. He landed some punches and elbows from the top. He looked for the kimura and then went to mount. After starting out slow he turned up the heat and finished off Bielkheden at 4:43 in the first round.
  • Dustin Hazelett vs Josh Koscheck: Dustin kicked things off with a brutal head kick that sent Koscheck back to the fence. He followed with a knee. Koscheck landed some punches before Dustin locked in a standing guillotine. Koscheck took Dustin down but got caught in a loose triangle and the round ended. Round 2 Koscheck landed some hard body blows and then landed a head kick of his own that hurt Hazelett knocking him down. Josh then finished Dustin off with a monstrous right hand and a few more hard shots. Herb Dean stepped in to save Hazelett.
  • Luigi Fioravanti vs Luke Cummo: The first minute of round one started with some mediocre standup. Luigi took down Cummo a couple of times but failed to keep him down. He then pulled off a beautiful belly to back suplex. Cummo got back to his feet but was taken back down. In the second round it was more of the same as Fioravanti scored several takedowns although he once again failed to keep Luke on the ground. In round three Luigi once again scored tons of takedowns yet he wasn’t able to inflict any damage on his opponent. Cummo really had no answer for anything and lost all three rounds.
  • Jake O’Brien vs Andrei Arlovski: O’Brien started off the round with four takedown attempts which were all denied by Arlovski. On the fourth attempt Andrei lost his balance while sprawling and Jake gained top position. Arlovski was very active from the bottom and landed a sharp elbow that cut O’Brien’s forehead. Round two started out with Jake once again shooting for the takedown. He was stuffed but eventually got Arlovski to the ground. Andrei got right back to his feet and took Jake down with a body lock ending up in full mount. Arlovski finished Jake off big punches. The ref jumped in and stopped the fight at 4:17.

  • John Halverson vs Jorge Gurgel (Gurgel wins via unanimous decision after 3)
  • David Bielkheden vs Diego Sanchez (Sanchez wins via submission (strikes) at 4:43 in 1st)
  • Dustin Hazelett vs Josh Koscheck (Koscheck wins via TKO (strikes) at 1:24 in the 2nd)

UFC 82 Main Card Play by Play Commentary

Chris Wilson vs Jon Fitch (170lbs)

  • Round 1: Fitch opens things up with a leg kick. Wilson shrugs off a takedown and another. Fitch gets shrugged off again and takes a nice punch. They start to exchange and Wilson lands some nice punches. Fitch finally gets the takedown. Fitch works hard to keep Chris on the mat but the ref stands them up. Wilson lands a nice body kick. Fitch finally gets another takedown as Wilson tries to isolate an arm but fails. Fitch in full guard can’t mount much of an offense and the round is over.
  • Round 2: Wilson shrugs off a takedown. Fitch, relentless, finally gets Wilson down. Fitch starts to unload some nice body punches from full guard. Wilson attempts to escape but is denied. Chris throws up his legs looking for something. Fitch passes to side control and starts to work some knees to the body. Jon gains full mount but Wilson regains half guard immediately. Fitch keeps grinding away from the top. Chris scrambles for an escape but fails. Fitch takes the round.
  • Round 3: They exchange and Wilson lands a nice combo. Chris catches a wizzer and almost takes Fitch down. Fitch lands a big right hand followed by an inside leg kick. Wilson lands a big body kick. Fitch lands another nice combo pushing Chris back to the fence. Fitch is starting to gain confidence on his feet more and more. Jon throws a nice combo to set up a shot and takes Wilson down. He starts to grind away at Chris up against the fence. Fitch starts to land some nice body punches and more body punches to a defenseless Wilson. Wilson attempts a triangle and cinches it up. He starts to tighten the triangle and pulls down on the head but time runs out for Wilson. Another round goes to Fitch.
  • Final Result: Jon Fitch wins via unanimous decision after 3 rounds.

Yushin Okami vs Evan Tanner (185lbs)

  • Round 1: Tanner lands a nice right to start things off. Tanner lands another but then gets dropped by a straight left from Okami. They scramble and Tanner almost gets Okami’s back but they end up in the clinch. Evan has regained his composure after getting hurt by that left hand. Tanner is bleeding under his right eye. They continue to clinch. Finally they separate. Evan comes in and takes a knee on the way. They both exchange punches and kicks to end the round. I give the round to Okami.
  • Round 2: They both start out exchanging punches. Okami lands a big body kick and follows with a nice uppercut. Okami gets the muay thai plum and throws a knee. Yushin lands another straight left that frustrates Tanner. They clinch up against the fence and Tanner drops levels for a takedown but fails. Okami grabs a muay thai plum and knocks out Tanner with a huge knee.
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: Yushin Okami wins via KO (knee) at 3:00 in the 2nd round.

Alessio Sakara vs Chris Leben (185lbs)

  • Round 1: Leben throws a kick to start things off. Sakara eats a left hook from Leben. Leben keeps coming forward with big punches and combinations. Both fighters are landing big shots. Alessio starts to tee off but Leben hangs in there. Leben lands a brutal body kick. Sakara counters with some nice blows as Chris wades in with punches. Leben starts to land uppercut after uppercut finally dropping Sakara with a left hook. Chris pounces on Sakara and continues to lands blows until the ref jumps in to stop it. Leben bloodied wins the fight. Sakara is very upset with the stoppage as he jumps right up.

  • Final Result: Chris Leben wins via TKO at 3:16 in the 1st round.

Heath Herring vs Cheick Kongo (265lb limit)

  • Round 1: Herring runs across the ring and connects with a punch that drops Kongo for a brief second. Kongo takes Heath down and lands some shots. Kongo takes down Herring again. Herring sweeps and gains side control. Kongo almost escapes but is rejected by Heath. They stand up and clinch. Kongo starts to land knees to the legs of Heath. Kongo drops for a takedown and gains full mount. Kongo works the midsection of Herring. Heath reverses and takes Kongo down but he srambles back to his feet. They scramble and Kongo gets Herring’s back but loses it. Herring is cut on his nose. Kongo is on top but they are in a stalemate for the rest of the round. I score it 10/9 for Kongo.
  • Round 2: They scramble and Kongo ends up on top in half guard. They stalemate for a while and Herring lands a nice upkick. The fighters clinch up against the fence and Kongo lands a knee to the leg. Kongo takes Herring down and ends up in north south position. Kongo scoots around to take Herrings back. Heath traps an arm but loses it. Heath reverses and ends up on top and lands some blows to the body. Heath lands a big knee and a few more to the body slamming them down from way above. He continues to knee Kongo’s body for the rest of the round. I score it 10/9 for Heath.
  • Round 3: Heath goes for a guillotine but gets taken down by Kongo. They scramble and Kongo gets Heath’s back but stays on the side of his back. They stand up and Cheick lands a kick. Kongo forces Heath down to the mat again. Heath grabs a single but is rejected for the moment but finally reverses and gains top control. Herring lands a knee to the body. Heath starts to land some body shots and remains in control after an escape attempt from Kongo. Heath keeps throwing knees to the body and lands some body shots. Heath mounts and lands a few shots. It looks like Heath pulled it out 10/9.
  • Final Result: Heath Herring wins via split decision after 3 rounds.

Anderson Silva vs Dan Henderson (Undisputed 185lb Championship Bout)

  • Round 1: Dan breaks the ice with a kick. Anderson lands a nice kick. Hendo wades in with punches and makes a weak attempt at a takedown. Hendo gets a body lock and takes down Silva. Dan lands an elbow. Henderson lands some short hammerfists to Silva’s temple. Dan lands a good elbow and another big elbow. Dan keeps throwing short hammerfists. Dan passes to side control. Silva scrambles and gains full guard. Hendo takes the first round 10/9.
  • Round 2: Hendo lands a body kick but pays for it. Silva gets dragged down by Henderson to the ground. He stands and gets a body lock on Silva. He starts to land some knees to the leg of Silva. Henderson lands a nice shot but gets caught by a giant devastating knee followed by a flurry of punches. Henderson tries to regroup as Silva is on top. Silva lands some body shots and a nice knee to the body. Silva gets Dans back and gets the hooks in. He starts to unload and sinks in the body triangle. He keeps punching Hendo and locks in the rear naked. Henderson has no choice but to tap.

  • Final Result: Anderson Silva wins via rear naked choke at 4:52 in the 2nd round.

    i ended up getting 6 out of 10 fights right i was in 109 out of 17615 on ufc and came in 29th out of ? on pro elite. how many people play that fantasy on proelite?

    Thats pretty good man. I didn’t make the UFC game in time unfortunately. I don’t know how many play the ProElite game. I know it’s a lot less than the UFC Fantasy.
