Another one bites the dust as the UFC lets one of their former middleweight contenders go for losing two in a row. Travis Lutter recently confirmed his release in a recent blog post.

"Friday [afternoon] I was told by my manager that UFC matchmaker Joe [Silva] had left my him a message on his phone that I had been released from my UFC contract because of my two losses in a row," Lutter wrote.

The UFC has done a lot of spring cleaning as of late and Travis Lutter, who recently lost to Rich Franklin at UFC 83, is the billion dollar company’s latest victim.

It seems to be a recurring trend with the organization who lost a top heavyweight earlier this month when they cut 10-1 Jake O’Brien who lost only one of his four career UFC fights.

Lutter began his career in the UFC back in October of 2004, knocking out Marvin Eastman at UFC 50 "The War of 04". He would go on to lose his next two bouts until returning at the "Ultimate Fighter Finale 4" where he submitted Patrick Cote via armbar early in the first round. Unfortunately for Travis, his next two fights in the UFC, would be against two of the top middleweights in the division.

Travis began down his "road to release" when he blew an opportunity to gain UFC gold, missing weight and losing his title shot against Anderson Silva at UFC 67 over a year ago. Apparently his follow up loss to former middleweight champ, Rich Franklin, at UFC 83 was the final straw for MMA’s biggest organization. Lutter leaves the UFC with an overall record of 2-4 and an army of fans who won’t remember him for his beautiful ground game but for the day he made one of the biggest blunders in the history of the UFC and missed weight by two pounds.
