The UFC has delivered a low blow to Affliction’s plans for a successful PPV debut, throwing together a live Spike TV event that will run concurrently with "Banned" on Saturday, July 19th.

Sherdog.com as well as two other reliable sources, confirmed the event today.

Whether or not the successful clothing company will tapout due to a substantial decrease in PPV buys on the night of the show remains to be seen. This isn’t the first time the two organizations have taken shots at each other. The rivalry started when the UFC banned it’s fighters from wearing Affliction. Affliction countered by naming their inaugural event, "Banned". Apparently the UFC was just getting warmed up.

One thing is for sure. A free UFC event on Spike TV will definitely have a big impact on Affliction’s PPV sales. Sherdog had a pole going earlier today asking it’s readers which event they would watch. Twenty five percent said that they would watch the UFC event on Spike instead of Affliction "Banned".

The combination of the UFC running a free event on the same night along with what many say is a lack of marketing to the casual fans, could turn out to be a lethal cocktail for Affliction. Either way, MMA fans are in for one hell of a night come July 19th in Las Vegas.

Headlining UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19th will be Anderson "The Spider" Silva , who will move up in weight to take on "The Sandman" James Irvin in a light heavyweight bout. After watching Silva clean out the UFC’s middleweight division, it seems that matchmaker Joe Silva wasn’t left with many options. Silva will still retain his 185lb title and could end up competing in both divisions in the future.

Also recently confirmed for the July 19th card is Brandon "The Truth" Vera, who will drop down in weight to fight former IFL prospect, Reese Andy, in the light heavyweight division. It won’t be a tough move for Vera who has always been considered a small heavyweight. Sources close to MMAJunkie have confirmed the bout which has been agreed upon and is expected to be signed shortly.

Two months after giving UFC veteran Jake O’Brien the shaft, the company has re-signed the heavyweight prospect. He will also fight at UFC Fight Night 14 against newcomer Cain Velasquez who has only 3 pro fights under his belt. O’Brien’s only loss in the UFC came against former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. Up until that point, Jake was undefeated as a pro and 3-0 in the UFC.

UFC Fight Night 14 (Unofficial Fight Card)

  • Anderson Silva vs James Irvin
  • Brandon Vera vs Reese Andy
  • Frankie Edgar vs Hermes Franca
  • Jake O’Brien vs Cain Velasquez
  • Anthony Johnson vs Kevin Burns (updated)

Update: According to MMA Mania a match up between welterweights Anthony "Rumble" Johnson and Kevin Burns has been added to the quickly growing Fight Night 14 card.

According to Dave Meltzer of Yahoo Sports, Dana White confirmed that the Hermes Franca vs Frank Edgar fight has been moved from UFC 87 to UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19.

Note: Due to the fact that the UFC is squeezing in UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19th, the Spike TV event on September 17th has been changed to UFC Fight Night 15.
