Seth Petruzelli, former cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter” and the first somewhat decent test for Slice in his pro career, shocked a packed house at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL tonight with a 14 second stoppage of EliteXC’s poster child Kimbo Slice.
Seth, originally slated to fight Aaron Rosa on tonight’s undercard, was given the opportunity of a lifetime tonight when Ken Shamrock, Kimbo’s original opponent, was forced to withdrawal due to an injury he sustained during warmup at tonight’s event. Seth took full advantage and exploited Kimbo’s weakness which appears to be a glass chin.
Petruzelli caught Kimbo coming in with a quick jab that sent the street fighter turned professional mixed martial artist directly to his knees. Slice, unable to recover from the blow, continued to eat punches. Seth, immediately smelling the blood, unloaded on Slice and sealed the deal at the 14 second mark.
The faces of the fans in the background said it all. EliteXC’s VP Jared Shaw was obviously awestruck as his number one man and the driving power behind EliteXC’s ticket sales crumbled to the mat. Desperate to save the reputation of his poster child, you could see Shaw in the background of the fight motioning to the ref that Seth was hitting Slice in the back of the head which was clearly not the case. It was quite frankly a pathetic moment.
EliteXC announcer Gus Johnson (I believe it was) said it was “the biggest upset in the history of MMA” which I found completely ridiculous. I didn’t find is shocking at all. Petruzelli was the first decent fighter Kimbo has faced. Imagine the outcome if Kimbo faced an upper echelon heavyweight such as Barnett, Arlovski or god forbid Emelianenko.
