Former UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk (32-3-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) and lightweight contender Tyson Griffin (12-1 MMA, 5-1) have agreed to meet at UFC 90 on October 25th at the Allstate Arena. Reports from Griffin’s camp have recently stated that a verbal agreement is in place and bout agreements have been distributed. A victory over Sherk could move Griffin a lot closer to that title shot that has been eluding him of late. Griffin has posted four consecutive victories since suffering his first career loss to Frankie Edgar in 2007. He has beaten some very game opponents in that stretch including Clay Guida, Thiago Tavares, Gleison Tibau and Marcus Aurelio. All of which were top 10-15 lightweights at the time. |

It will be Sherk’s first fight since his loss to UFC lightweight champ B.J. Penn in May at UFC 84. The title was once Sherk’s, but after failing a drug test following his title defense against Hermes Franca, he was suspended six months and stripped of the belt. He’s maintained his innocence against the alleged steroid use throughout the ordeal. Either way this could end up being an interesting fight. Perhaps not the most exciting, but interesting nonetheless. |
