ken ryan shamrock interview

Today Ken Shamrock and his son Ryan Shamrock hit the ProElite.com forums to answers any questions regarding their upcoming bouts at Cage Rage 25 this Saturday in London, England.

Both father and son are competing on the same card which is a first in mixed martial arts history. Ken Shamrock is making his comeback in the main event of the night against Robert "Buzz" Berry in a heavyweight bout.

Ken’s son Ryan Shamrock will be taking on Giorgio Andrews in what will be only his second pro MMA fight in a bantamweight match up. Ryan was successful in his pro debut submitting Josh Besneatte via choke in the first round.

Ryan’s dad on the other hand has only won 3 out of his last 10 fights and will be looking to turn things around late in his career. Regardless Ken Shamrock is more than just his record. He is a legend of the sport, a UFC Hall of Famer, and a pioneer of the sport. He embodies the spirit of MMA and fights for the love of the sport.

I had a chance to ask father and son a few questions today. Here is what they had to say.

Short interview with Ken Shamrock:

Todd Yeakle: What do you say to the people that say you are passed your prime and too old to still be competitive?

Ken: Everyone has an opinion.

Todd Yeakle: In your eyes who is the pound for pound #1 fighter in the world?

Ken: There’s too many to name one specific.

Todd Yeakle: Who do you have the most respect for as a fighter?

Ken: Randy Couture

Todd Yeakle: Where do you see the sport of mixed martial arts in 10 years?

Ken: I see MMA getting to the point of where boxing was 10 years ago.

Todd Yeakle: If you could avenge any of your losses who would you want a rematch with and why?

Ken: The Ortiz fights, because I hate his attitude, and I wasn’t able to bring 100% of my game due to injury.

Short interview with Ryan Shamrock:

Todd Yeakle: What do you like about mixed martial arts?

Ryan: I like the techniques and strategy behind a match. That and I think its just in my blood.

Todd Yeakle: If you weren’t a mixed martial artist, what would you do for a profession?

Ryan: I’d be either a chef or a personal trainer. I was going to culinary arts school, but talked with my dad about fighting and he approved me going into MMA as long as I didn’t close the door on college.

Todd Yeakle: What is your favorite fight of all time?

Ryan: I love when my dad fought Royce the second time. He pounded Royce for 36 minutes. How can you not be proud of that?

Todd Yeakle: What advice would you give to someone that was about to enter their first mma fight?

Ryan: Don’t worry about the people around you. Just go in, do your job, and listen to your corner.

Todd Yeakle: What is your main goal as a mixed martial artist?

Ryan: Right now my main goal is just to have fun with it. This is still an early, formative part of my career.
