It was reported today that St. Pierre will get a chance for redemption when he takes on Matt Serra once again at Canada’s first event (UFC 83) in April. Matt Serra shocked the mma world defeating St. Pierre at 3:25 of the 1st round at UFC 69 in April. The first meeting didn’t go Pierre’s way and he now has something to prove. St. Pierre was overwhelmed in their first match after Serra stunned him with a hook and finally pounded him out on the ground for the win. When it came time for Serra to defend his title against Hughes he was forced out due to a back injury and Pierre took his place. Pierre subsequently won the fight over Hughes in dominating fashion via armbar in the 2nd. |

During he post fight interview with Rogan Pierre said that he wouldn’t consider himself Champion again until he defeated Serra. George St. Pierre is possibly the best pound for pound fighter in the world and definitely the most physically gifted athlete in the sport today. He is a heavy favorite in this bout and will most likely enter the cage a different fighter than his first bout with Serra. It should be a quick night for Pierre if he is on. Also keep in mind that he will be facing a lot of pressure representing all of Canada in this match. Hopefully it won’t hinder his ability too much at show time. This will mark a new beginning for Ultimate Fighting in Canada which will host the event in April. The show is expected to take place at the Bell Centre. Another fighter rumored to be fighting at UFC 83 is Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald. He recently told a Canadian news source that the UFC is making him wait to fight in April for the Canadian event. The UFC obviously wants as many Canadians as it can get on the card to make it a "Nations collide" type of event. It is exciting to see USA battle other countries. We could also possibly see Cote, Ortiz, and Stout on this card as well. I will let you know as soon as I get more info on the fight card for UFC 83. |
