For the first time in 11 years and 75 shows later, the UFC will officially make it’s way back to Georgia for UFC 88 on September 6th.

The UFC officially announced the event this afternoon on their website. UFC 88 will be only the second Mixed Martial Arts event to take place at Philips Arena, Atlanta’s popular downtown venue.

Philips Arena first got it’s feet wet back on May 30th, when the American Fight League’s held it’s "Bulletproof" event at the Atlanta venue.

In addition to announcing the UFC’s return to Georgia, the organization also announced the headliner for UFC 88 which will feature a match up of light heavyweights, Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell and Rashad Evans. The two were scheduled to face each other in London at UFC 85 but the bout was pushed back after Liddell injured his hamstring during training.

Today’s announcement puts an official end to rumors that UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, was going to move up in weight to face Liddell in Atlanta at UFC 88.

Tickets for UFC 88 go on sale to the general public this Saturday at 12pm ET. UFC Fight Club members get first dibs on the tickets starting this Wednesday at 10am ET. Subscribers to the UFC’s mailing list get second dibs and will have the option to purchase tickets on Friday at 10am ET.
