Joey Villasenor will finally get a chance to redeem himself against EliteXC middleweight champ Robbie Lawler at an upcoming EliteXC event set for November 8th on Showtime.

EliteXC confirmed the event during their Friday night broadcast of ShoXC. The two elite middleweights met once before during Pride 32 “Real Deal,” Pride’s foray into America before being purchased by the UFC and eventually going under.

Lawler quickly ran through Villasenor, catching the mexican fighter with a beautiful flying knee that put him to sleep in a mere 22 seconds flat. Joey will look to avenge his loss and at the same time secure the gold strap that has so far eluded him during his EliteXC career.

Villasenor spoke about their first meeting.

“[Lawler] caught me with his first right, he dazed me, and the rest is history,” Villasenor said. “Ever since that night I think about it and him all the time. … I would really like the opportunity to compete against him again.”

Although a venue for the event has yet to be announced, Shaw has stated that Brett Rogers, Nick Diaz, and Rafael Calvancante are all scheduled to compete on the card.
