fite selektor tag team mma

A new organization in mixed martial arts called Fite Selektor is coming to Dubai in March.

The organization is like nothing you have ever seen before.

For the first time ever in the history of MMA, four fighters will compete in a single bout and will be allowed to tag their teammate when they need help. In addition the audience will decide who fights who using a SMS text voting system on the night of the event.

The first tournament will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Dubai International and Convention Centre. Eight fighters will compete in the tournament. At the beginning of the tournament, the eight fighters will take the stage, and the audience will decide the fights by text messaging. The fighter and his opponent will be chosen using the SMS votes for three of the fights. The final fight will be arranged through a process of elimination. There will be 4 Fite Selektor fights total.

After their debut tournament in Dubai, the organization will travel to other parts of the Middle East and South Asia. The winner of the Fite Selektor tournament will receive $75,000.

Confirmed fighters include:

  • Michael Knaap (Netherlands)
  • Nikolay Onikienko (Russia)
  • Alexev Veselovzorov (Russia)
  • Andre Fyeet (Surinam)
  • Kristov Kulak (Poland)
  • Florian MOller (Germany)
  • Christian M’Pumbo (France & Congo)
  • Alexander Gustafsson (Sweden)

Fite Selektor aims to transform the Martial Arts Industry through it’s creation of a multimedia concept, viral campaigns, web communities and interactive gala events. The event aims to entertain audiences both inside and outside the ring.

Yeah these organizations are pulling out all the stops to try and compete with big boys. I am watching the AFL right now on HDNet and they have a thing called fast fight which is 5 1:30 rounds and the ref stands them up much quicker when there is no action. I don’t personally like it but because sometimes it takes a while to set up a submission.

Cool what site is it? Yes HDNet is great so far. They show a lot of the smaller shows which is awesome. The AFL had some really good fights.

Saw the fights in Dubai last night. A few good fights and a few slow ones. The concept worked ok. The ring presenter was a classic…

The Tag Team fight was too slow. Every time they tagged the fight stopped for about 10-15 seconds. The best part of the tag fight was when one of the New Zealand team did the ‘Haka’ at the end.

The crowd wasn’t that big. On the night all the tickets were 100 Dirhams.
They need to get rid of those huge dinner tables near ring, and let the crowd down to scream and shout.

I’m sure as the concept continues they will iron out the bugs.

Glad I went! Hopefully the ’round board’ girl(s) get their gear off next time.

Sounds like you had fun. I can see how that would disrupt the action stopping the fight for so long. It should be more like 4 or 5 seconds at least.

Anyways thanks for the info on the event. I wish I could have been there.
