Cantwell explodes with a vicious head kick followed by a combination and final punch that rocks McKenzie. Cantwell jumps on Tim dropping down punches and ends up in full guard. After some quick ground and pound Steve passes to side control and then right to mount. Cantwell then unloads with strikes and Tim gives up his back. Cantwell patiently sinks in the rear naked choke and McKenzie is forced to tap.

Ed Ratcliff vs Marcus Hicks (Lightweight Bout)

  • Round 1: They come out and start to trade. Hicks lands a punch that stumbles Ratcliff who falls down. Hicks immediately goes for blood and sinks in a guillotine. Ratcliff escapes but pays for it with a giant uppercut that literally sends him flying across the ring. Marcus swoops right in for another guillotine but amazingly Ed escapes again. Hicks lands a huge punch out of the clinch and Ratcliff proves that he has a chin. Hicks hits him with another big shot and they clinch. Marcus goes for another guillotine and that is the end for Ratcliff.

After a tie up Chael gets full guard. Sonnen starts to ground and pound Baker who keeps eating some big shots. Chael starts to unload a little with some nice punches. Sonnen dominated the round. I score it 10/9 for Sonnen.
  • Round 2: Round two starts the same way as the first with Chael shooting and ending up in half guard. Chael continues to pound away with beautiful ground and pound technique. Sonnen keeps reigning down blows. Chael tees off and lands 4 or 5 big shots to the head of Baker. Brian now bloody battered gives up side control. Chael looks for a kimura and ends the round with more brutal ground and pound.
  • Round 3: As expected Sonnen takes down Baker with ease catching a kick. He ends up in side control trapping an arm at the same time. He starts to reign down blows to Baker who can’t defend because of the arm trap. Chael continues to completely control Brian who can’t mount any offense whatsoever. Sonnen sets up the darce but lets it go. Baker goes for a kneebar that fails quickly and eventually allows Sonnen to take his back. Brian makes a little attempt at an armbar which is shutdown quickly. It’s more of the same as Chael continues to bring the punishment. Sonnen unloads at the end with a huge flurry that almost stops the fight. Amazingly Baker makes it to the end of the round. Chael all the way. I score this round 10/8 for Chael.
  • Final Result: Chael Sonnen wins via Unanimous Decision after 3 rounds.

They start to throwdown and Stann lands a huge left that drops Marshall dead in his tracks. Stann pounces in and finishes him off with punches. The ref has no choice but to save the defenseless Marshall.

World Extreme Cagefighting announced the full fight card for WEC 33 "Filho vs Sonnen II" which takes place on March 26, 2008 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Headlining the event will of course be the anticipated rematch between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu artist Paul Filho vs American wrestler Chael Sonnen. Their first fight ended in controversy when Filho tapped out Sonnen via a verbal submission due to armbar. Chael actually did not tap out but screamed in agony due to the tight submission hold. The ref thought that was enough for Chael and stopped the fight.

Before getting caught in the armbar Sonnen had completely dominated Paul Filho for two full rounds.

Filho being the champ that he is granted Chael the rematch and here we go again in only a few more weeks.

In an amazing twist of events Filho, who originally told website TATAME that he was pulling out of the rematch with Sonnen for personal reasons, will continue with the bout. Paul’s manager, Ed Soares, stated that Filho’s camp railed around the fighter and that the fight will continue as planned.

The co-main event of the night should be an absolute slugfest as "All-American" Marine Brian Stann takes on the vicious power of Doug "The Rhino" Marshall in a light heavyweight bout for the ages. Do not blink for this fight as it could be one of the fastest fights in history.

A rematch between Chael Sonnen and Paul Filho has been confirmed by the WEC that will take place at WEC 33 on March 26.

The controversial first fight between the two top ranked 185lb fighters took place at WEC 31 on December 12, 2007 and proved to be anything but boring. Filho was the heavy favorite and was expected to be a tough task for the All-American wrestler Chael Sonnen.

chael sonnen paul filho rematch wec 33

In fact the fight ended up being the exact opposite as Sonnen out classed the #1 ranked Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist in the stand up department and on the ground. This was the case the entire fight until the end of the second round when out of no where Chael got caught in a nasty armbar. Sonnen screamed in agony which prompted the referee to jump in and stop the fight. Chael protested the decision and stated that he did not tap. Thus the controversy began.

Now these two fighters will get the chance to settle the dispute once and for all and prove who is the real middleweight champion of the WEC. Chael will have the opportunity to prove that his domination was no fluke and that he is the better fighter. Filho will have a chance to prove why he is ranked top 2 in the world at 185 because on that night in December he did not look like it.

To make things even more exciting at WEC 33 two titles will be on the line. In a second championship bout, Doug "The Rhino" Marshall will take on Brian Stann for the WEC light heavyweight championship of the world in a five round war that should be a total slug fest. In Marshall’s last fight he proved that he was more than just a one dimensional striker, tapping out Ariel Gandulla with an armbar in under a minute at WEC 31. Brian Stann, fighting for his fellow US Marines, is on a roll and has stopped his last five opponents by way of TKO in the first round. Prepare for a battle as this fight should be an all out war of the bangers.

WEC 33 will most likely take place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas though it has not been confirmed. The event will air live on the Versus channel. Stay tuned for more WEC 33 fight card updates.
