SportFight 23 "Heated Rivals" kicks off tonight from the Rose Garden in Portland, OR at 10pm ET.

The main event features a welterweight title fight between the champ Mike Pierce and rival Team Quest fighter, Nathan Coy. The co-main event features another great battle between former IFL fighter, Jake Ellenberger, who comes in with an impressive 17-3 record and Ricky Storey who is currently 4-2.

Eli Peterson vs Miles Coble (Middleweight Amateur Bout)

  • Round 1: Both fighters come out swinging. The tie up and Coble almost gets caught in a guillotine. Peterson transitions right into a rear naked choke. Coble can’t escape and taps out.

  • Final Result: Eli Peterson wins via Rear Naked Choke at 0:52 in the 1st round.

Marc Forsyth vs Mike Chiesa (Lightweight Amateur Bout)

  • Round 1: Forsyth shoots in and executes a takedown. He gets reversed and ends up on the bottom. Forsyth transitions into a beautiful armbar and finishes off Chiesa in just over a minute.

  • Final Result: Marc Forsyth wins via Armbar at 1:07 in the 1st round.

Fabiano Scherner vs Mychal Clark (Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: After a little feeling out, Scherner lands a solid straight right hand. He follows with a nice takedown into half guard. He immediately passes to side control and starts to reign down blows. Clark is already cut around his left eye. Fabio delivers a couple of short shots and Clark gives up his back. He escapes a rear naked choke attempt and gets taken right back down to the mat. The doctor is brought in to check Clark’s eye. Back in action Mychal unloads with a combo. Scherner gets the takedown into half guard. He sinks in a kimura and starts to extend the arm. Clark fights his way out the submission to survive the round.

  • Round 2: Clark comes out with a nice kick to the head. Scherner takes a low blow that really looked like it was to the stomach. Mychal lands a nice elbow to the head. Clark lands another elbow followed by an uppercut. Scherner easily takes Mychal to the mat into half guard. He moves into full mount. He sets up the left arm and transitions into an armbar. Clark somehow spins out the armbar into mount. He drops a couple of elbows down but gets reversed easily. Fabio passes and attempts a weak armbar. Back on their feet, Scherner catches a right behind the ear and basically loses his balance falling to his back. Clark pounces with a superman punch and unloads with punches. He continues to pound away and the ref stops the fight.
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: Mychal Clark wins via TKO (Verbal Submission) at 3:51 in the 2nd round.

Justin Moody vs DJ Linderman (Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: After a few strikes they clinch up against the ropes. Moody lands some good body shots, picks Linderman up and slams him to the mat. He transitions to the back but DJ escapes. Linderman unloads and they tie up again. Moody again goes to the body with punches. DJ lands a good left and two more straight lefts that shake Moody. Moody gets another takedown into side control. Back on their feet, Justin works a standing guillotine but DJ escapes. Moody takes him back to the mat where he controls DJ but can’t do much in the position he is in. The ref stands them up. The tie up and Moody lands a knee to the body. The round ends with both fighters clinched in the corner.

  • Round 2: DJ comes out with some serious aggression, landing a brutal body shot and a solid left to the face. Moody drops for a single and lands a good uppercut. The scramble and tie up on their feet. Justin shoots in but gets reversed and DJ works from Moody’s back, dropping some small shots. He transitions into half guard and starts to pummel Moody with some solid elbows. He now has Moody’s right arm trapped. He works a kimura on the left arm. He can’t get it but lands another solid elbow. The ref asks Moody if he is ok. DJ lands one more elbow and Moody taps out.

  • Final Result: DJ Linderman wins via TKO (Tapout from Elbows) at 2:37 in the 2nd round.

Josh Queen vs Josh Bennett (Heavyweight Title Bout)

  • Round 1: Queen comes out like a man possessed unloading with strikes. Bennett returns and we have a good ole fashioned brawl on our hands. Bennett smiles and eats a kick for his troubles. Queen comes in and unloads with a flurry of punches. He lands a solid left and Bennett is in trouble. He continues to flurry working the body and the head. Queen’s mouth piece goes flying out of the ring. Bennett is already beaten and bloodied. Queen, relentless continues to slug away. Bennett comes back landing a few solid shots of his own. They continue to slug it out and the ref stops the action to retrieve Queens mouth piece. During the break, Bennett, smiles at the camera. His face looks like it was put into a mulcher chipper shredder. Somebody throws a towel in and they try to figure out where it came from. It didn’t come from anyone’s corner so the action continues. They immediately start to swing for the fences, covered in blood. Queen lands a left right combo that drops Bennett to the mat. Queen lands some strikes in side control, then transitions to the back and sinks in the choke. Bennett is forced to tap and the fight is over.

Ryan Jensen vs Mitch Whitesel (Middleweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Jensen strikes first with a nice cut kick. He lands another solid kick this time to the inside of Mitch’s leg. Whitesel already looking desperate, eats a good punch. Jensen is definitely getting the bettor of Whitesel in the standup. Mitch lands a good kick of his own. Ryan comes in with a head kick but Mitch gets a body lock and takes Jensen to the mat into half guard. Back into full guard Whitesel works a couple of small shots. Jensen sets up a triangle but Mitch counters and escapes. Back to their feet Jensen throws a combo and then takes Whitesel down. He works some nice shots to the body. He stands up and drops a couple of shots. He starts to unleash some vicious ground and pound as Whitesel just covers up. Whitesel is looking for a way out. The ref warns Mitch to defend himself and then stops the fight.

  • Final Result: Ryan Jensen wins via TKO (Strikes) at 4:44 in the 1st round.

Jake Ellenberger vs Ricky Storey (Welterweight Bout)

  • Round 1: They immediately start to trade punches and go right into a clinch. They trade knees and Storey gets a single leg takedown into side control. He works a knee and some small elbows. Ellenberger escapes and gets to his feet. He lands a solid knee to the body and takes Storey’s back. Storey works on a standing kimura but Jake gets out. Ricky runs right into a flying knee from Ellenberger but gets the takedown into side control. He starts to work some short elbows to the head. Back on their feet, Jake lands a kick. Storey lands a big left hand that whips Jake’s head back. Ellenberger signals for Ricky to come on, which mean he is probably hurt. Storey says ok and lands a right hand that hurts Ellenberger. He takes him down and unloads with a barrage of punches. Jake grabs a leg and starts to recover. Ricky continues to control Jake on the ground. Ellenberger finally gets to his feet and lands a knee to finish the round.

  • Round 2: Storey comes in with a left and gets the takedown into half guard. Storey works some ground and pound and almost gets mount. The ref brings the fighters to the center of the ring. Ricky passes to side control and starts to work some small shots to the body and head. He goes back to the body as Jake gets back to full guard. Ellenberger throws up his legs looking for a submission. Ricky continues to control landing some small shots to the head. Ellenberger gets to his feet but eats a good kick to the head. Jake stops the takedown and works for position. Storey continues to drive for the takedown and they stalemate. The round comes to an end. Storey has a nice gash on the back of his head that came from an elbow that was most likely an illegal blow.

  • Round 3: Ellenberger comes out with a barrage of knees, knowing he is going to lose this fight if he doesn’t finish. Storey gets the single leg takedown and almost takes the mount. Storey continues to control Jake on the ground. The ref repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Ricky stays close landing short elbows to the head. He postures and lands a nice punch. Ellenberger can’t get anything going. Jake gets to his feet but Storey takes him right back to the mat. Storey starts to drop some left hands and Jake gets back to his feet momentarily. Storey continues to control on the ground but isn’t landing much. The ref stands them up with seconds left on the clock. Storey finishes strong with a flurry. Ellenberger finishes with a kick to the body after the bell. He gives Storey the finger as the separate and Storey brushes off his shoulder.

    As the decision is read, Ellenberger continues to whine even after being dominated for three rounds. Storey points to his nose pointing out the fact that Ellenberger’s nose is hamburger. The fighters square off and Jake pushes Storey before the ref steps in to break them up.

Michael Pierce vs Nathan Coy (Welterweight Title Bout)

  • Round 1: Pierce shoots for a single but Coy denies. He backs off and lets some punches go. Pierce lands a right hand to the chin that drops Nathan Coy. He starts to unload in half guard. He passes to full mount and patiently waits for the right moment. Coy flurries and escapes. Pierce works for a guillotine and ends up on his back. Coy lands a nice right and comes in with a combo and a shot. The fighters are stood back up for inactivity. They start to trade and Nathan lands a knee. Coy lands a good left hand. He catches Pierce with a punch that staggers him. They trade again and Pierce checks his face for blood. They stop the fight for what looks like a low blow from a knee. Coy has now been warned twice for low blows. Pierce lands a good left and they continue to trade blows until the round ends.

  • Round 2: They come out swinging. Pierce lands a solid right hand. Coy unloads in the corner with some good shots and Pierce counters nicely. Pierce lands a big left hand but Coy shakes it off. Both fighters try to find their distance. Coy comes in with a nice combo that lands and Pierce ties him up. They separate and continue to trade strikes. Coy lands a couple of nice right jabs. Pierce’s face is bloodied up on the right side. Both fighters continue to land and the round ends.

  • Round 3: They both come out swinging for the fences and Pierce lands a couple of good shots. Coy comes right back landing a good right hand. Nathan lands an uppercut. Coy continues to come in with combos looking for the finish. Pierce forces Coy into the corner where they tie up momentarily. Both fighters are now swinging wildly. Coy lands some nice shots and eats a good right from Pierce. The have another good exchange in the center of the ring. Pierce cracks Coy with a huge right that doesn’t even phase Coy. Pierce catches a kick and grabs a body lock up against the ropes. He works for the takedown but time runs out.

  • Round 4: Pierce comes in with a flying knee and fly’s over Coy and almost through the ropes. Both fighters continue to exchange with Coy landing some good jabs. Pierce’s cut is now opened back up. Nathan lands a nice uppercut but Pierce comes back and swings away with some haymakers that miss. Coy continues to pick apart Pierce with his jab. Pierce catches him with a good solid combo. Coy lands another good right. Pierces lands a low kick to finish the round.

Pierce comes in for a single leg but Coy denies and they tie up. The continue to trade shots but neither can land anything effective. Coy lands a good left. They slug it out and Pierce finishes the round with a flying knee that misses. Both men raise their hands.

sportsfight XXII re-awakening live results play by play

It’s almost time for the "Re-Awakening" of SportFight XXII (22) taking place live tonight at 10pm ET from the Rose Garden in Portland, OR.

Featured in the main event of the night is the SportFight featherweight champ Enoch Wilson putting his belt and two year reign at the top on the line against newcomer Mike Joy. Joy put himself in title contention after an impressive unanimous decision over Zach George at the last SportFight event.

Quick results for the prelims will begin right here at 10:00pm ET. I will try to get them sooner but I can’t promise anything. Live play by play commentary for the main card will begin at 10:30pm ET.

SportFight 22 Main Card Play by Play Commentary (# of Bouts Subject to Change)

Jon Krohn vs Damian Dantibo (Light Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Dantibo comes out with a nice head kick and shoots in on Krohn. Jon controls Damian with a head lock as they continue to clinch against the ropes. Krohn throws Damian to the mat with a vicious judo throw. He takes Dantibo’s back and sinks in both hooks. Krohn starts to pepper Damian with some short punches. He locks in a body triangle and starts to look for the choke. Dantibo attempts to escape and almost gets caught in an armbar. He succeeds in escaping and they are back to their feet with a minute left. Krohn lands a second judo throw and ends up in guard. Damian throws up a loose triangle but gives up back control again. Dantibo escapes and lands a small furry of punches from the top to finish the round on top. I score the round 10/9 for Jon Krohn.
  • Round 2: Dantibo comes out with a couple good blows and they clinch. Damian scores a takedown and sinks in a guillotine. Krohn slams Dantibo violently and blood starts to pour from Dantibo’s nose. Krohn from the top lands a good right and takes Damian’s back. Dantibo escapes back control and ends up in side control. He starts to work for an americana. Damian tries for another guillotine but misses as Krohn stands up out of it. Dantibo gains full mount, creates some space and unloads with a barrage of violent punches. Krohn turns over and the ref steps in to save Jon Krohn.

  • Final Result: Damian Dantibo wins via TKO (Strikes) at 3:57 in the 2nd round.

Justin Moody vs Andrew Pedersen (Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Moody goes right in for a shot and takes Andrew down. Pedersen immediately goes for an armbar but is rejected. He transitions right from the armbar attempt into a leg lock attempt. Moody slams Andrew and takes his back. He pulls him down to the mat slamming him down. He sinks in the choke and Pedersen is forced to tap.

  • Final Result: Justin Moody wins via Rear Naked Choke at 0:48 in the 1st round.

Josh Bennett vs Matt Kovacs (Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Kovacs comes out with some nice combos and a couple of nice low leg kicks. They clinch against the ropes and Kovacs starts to land some nice body shots and a knee. Bennett backs off and lands a nice little flurry. Kovacs comes in with some hay makers but nothing big connects. Bennett smiles at Kovacs who reacts with a vicious flurry up against the ropes. Josh retaliates with a good combo of his own. Bennett lands a big forearm elbow to the head of Matt. They separate and Bennett picks up the pace throwing a flurry of big punches. He starts to pick apart a tired Kovacs who at one point is running from Josh. Bennett lands a nice knee to the head. Josh lands a solid straight left and Kovacs comes back with a barrage of big punches landing big blow after big blow and Josh is saved by the bell though suffering a cut above his eyebrow. I score the round 10/9 for Kovacs.
  • Round 2: Both guys come right out swinging. Both fighters are landing big shots and Kovacs lands a huge right hand. He lands another big right and starts to tee off in the corner. This is a straight up brawl. They clinch and Bennett lands a couple of short knees. Bennett catches Matt with a right, left, right that sends Kovacs to the mat and the ref steps in to stop the fight. Kovacs is upset with the stoppage momentarily.

  • Final Result: Josh Bennett wins via TKO (Ref Stoppage) at 1:17 in the 2nd round.

Sunia Filikitonga vs Thomas Naylor (Heavyweight Bout)

  • Round 1: After a small feeling out process Sunia starts to land some shots. He then unloads with a massive attack of big shots blasting Naylor in the corner. He finishes him off with a 5 or 6 punch combo that sends Thomas to his knees wondering what the hell just happened. Naylor is left beaten and battered with a swollen black right eye.

  • Final Result: Sunia Filikitonga wins via TKO (Strikes) at 0:41 in the 1st round.

Nathan Coy vs Jerrod Jones (Welterweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Coy strikes first with a good low leg kick. Jones shoots and they clinch up against the ropes. They separate and start to trade. Jones shoots and Coy lands a good knee to the head. Coy grabs Jones in a head lock. They scramble and Coy ends up on top in guard. Coy is on his feet looking to drop bombs but Jones has good defense and an active guard. Coy passes to side mount. He starts to drop some powerful right hands. He lands a nice right hand from the top standing. Coy starts to reign down right hands from side mount. He controls Jones with a headlock but ends up in Jerrod’s full guard. Coy drops a solid right hand down that lands flush. The ref lets Jones up to his feet and they clinch. They swing wildly and the round ends. I score this round 10/9 for Nathan Coy.
  • Round 2: They come out trading in the second. Jones comes in looking for the takedown and Coy responds with a knee. Coy grabs a double leg and slams him down with authority into side control. Nathan starts to land some good body punches and some nice knees. Coy takes full mount and starts to throw some left hands that are sneaking in. He starts to unload now with the rights and some hammer fist. He continues to unload and Jones taps out from strikes with nowhere to go.
  • Round 3:
  • Final Result: Nathan Coy wins via Submission (Due to Strikes) at 2:37 in the 2nd round.

Lance Wipf vs Arley George (Lightweight Bout)

  • Round 1: Lance comes out with some big punches and a nice kick that lands. Wipf shoots in and picks up Arley looking for the slam. He ends up holding him too long and Arley sinks in a tight guillotine choke hanging on to Wipf. Lance drops down to the mat and Arley loses the choke. Lance passes to half guard and starts to work the body. He looks for an arm but goes back to the body with punches. Lance looks again for the reverse figure four on Arley’s left arm. Arley reverses but Lance takes his back and starts to unload with ground and pound. He continues to land blow after blow to the head of George who is defenseless on his stomach. He is relentless and the ref steps in. It looked like the fight is over but apparently a point is being deducted from Lance for punches to the back of George’s head. The are back to the center of the ring and Arley lands a nice right followed by a good knee. Wipf shoots and Arley sinks in a guillotine that goes nowhere. Lance goes to half guard while Arley looks for the reverse kimura. The ref stands the fighters back up. Wipf swings and misses but ends up going for a leg lock. George reverses to finish the round.
  • Round 2: They trade and Lance looks for the takedown. Arley loses a point for avoiding the takedown by grabbing the ropes. Arley goes for an armbar and misses but sinks in a triangle. Amazingly right when he secures the triangle, the ref steps in to move the fighters to the center of the ring. Lance slips out of the triangle choke which wasn’t as tight when the fighters were restarted and ends up in side mount. Wipf works a little ground and pound with just a couple of small shots. Back on the ground Lance passes to half guard but the pace has slowed considerably. Wipf lands some small shots to the body but nothing really damaging and the round ends. I score the round 10/9 for Lance Wipf.
  • Round 3: After a small exchange Lance shoots in and gets the takedown into full guard then half guard. Wipf continues to look for an arm lock with no success and the ref stands the fighters up. Once again Lance shoots and eventually gets the takedown. George looks for an armbar but Wipf is controlling. Lance has a reverse triangle and looks for an arm lock. George defends the figure four arm lock. Wipf gets the crucifix position and starts to finally get some punches in. He starts to land some good short elbows and punches to a defenseless George. The ref steps in to stop the fight.
  • Final Result: Lance Wipf wins via TKO (Strikes) at 4:23 in the 3rd round.

Tommy Truex vs Dave Jansen (Lightweight Bout)

  • Round 1: They both come out trading bombs and Truex gets the takedown. Jansen goes right for an omaplata but Tommy escapes and they are back to their feet. Jansen starts to slug away with huge hay makers and connect with three giant right hands in a row sending Truex to the mat. Jansen throws a couple more shots, goes for a quick guillotine and the returns to blasting Tommy with big punches. He lands a barrage of vicious punches and Truex is basically out on his feet. Tommy falls down again and Dave lands on top in full mount. He finishes off a bloody Truex with punches from the mount and the ref steps in to save Tommy. Amazingly Tommy was never full knocked out after receiving a plethora of devastating blows. Jansen is a complete madman and was very impressive.

  • Final Result: Dave Jansen wins via TKO (Strikes) at 1:38 in the 1st round.

Ed Nuno vs Lyle Beerbohm (Interim Lightweight Title Bout)

  • Round 1: The fighters who a lot of respect with a long feeling out process. Nuno lands a nice kick. Beerbohm shoots in and scores a takedown. Ed goes for a guillotine but can’t finish. Lyle ends up in full guard but passes to half. Beerbohm is controlling and takes Ed’s back. He looks for the rear naked choke and sinks in a tight body triangle. He keeps working the choke but Nuno is defending well tucking his chin. Nuno, relaxed, continues to defend the choke momentarily. Lyle can’t get the arm under the chin to finish the choke. Nuno reverses by spinning around and takes Lyle’s back. Lyle regains control and takes Ed’s back. The rounds ends. I score the round 10/9 for Lyle Beerbohm.
  • Round 2: Lyle lands a nice body kick and shoots but Nuno sprawls nicely. Relentless, Beerbohm eventually gets Nuno to his back. Lyle takes Nuno’s back again looks to sink in the hooks. Beerbohm goes for an armbar but misses and Nuno takes Lyle’s back momentarily. Lyle returns the favor taking Nuno’s back. They scramble and Beerbohm ends up in side mount. He takes Nuno’s back once again and looks for the choke. This time it looks like he might have the choke but Nuno’s escapes. Beerbohm, uneventful, keeps hoping to sink the choke. Nuno reverses at the end but time runs out. I score the round 10/9 for Lyle Beerbohm.
  • Round 3: Beerbohm shoots but misses and Nuno lands a nice right kick right to the pills of "Fancy Pants". Lyle comes right in for the takedown but doesn’t get it. The ref breaks the fights since Lyle was grabbing the ropes. Lyle takes down Nuno into full guard. Nuno goes for a kimura but Beerbohm defends easily. He passes to side mount where he lands a knee to the back forcing the ref to break the fighters. He takes a point from Beerbohm for the illegal blow which was clearly unintentional because Nuno turned when the knee was thrown. This ref is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Beerbohm scores what must be the 50th takedown by now. I don’t think Beerbohm has thrown one effective punch the entire fight. Lyle takes Nuno’s back and starts to look for the choke. Once again he can’t get it and Nuno almost pulls off a kimura. Again Beerbohm is on top like a leech looking for the choke and the round ends with a little punch from Lyle. I score the round 10/9 for Lyle Beerbohm. It was a lackluster performance from both fighters.
  • Final Result: Lyle Beerbohm wins via Unanimous Decision after 3 rounds.

Enoch Wilson vs Mike Joy (Featherweight Championship Bout)

  • Round 1: They trade and Joy muscles Enoch to the mat with a strong takedown. Mike starts to unload some punches in the corner of the ring. The ref brings them out to the center of the ring. Joy is in half guard starting to work some ground and pound. Wilson throws a nice elbow from the bottom. Joy accidentally elbows the back of the head and apologizes. Joy passes to side control and then north south position. Joy traps an arm behind Wilson’s back but Enoch quickly escapes. Mike takes Wilson’s back and sinks in the body triangle. He starts to look for the choke and softens him up with some punches. Enoch tries to reverse but Joy regains control. They stand up but Joy quickly gets it back to the ground controlling every move. He has Wilson’s back standing but Enoch lands a couple of nice up elbows. The ref separates them and bell rings before either can get a punch off. I score the round 10/9 for Mike Joy.
  • Round 2: Joy lands a left hand and Enoch gets the trip and the takedown. Wilson ends up in side control. Joy is given a last warning for striking the back of the head. Mike gets to his feet and takes down Enoch. Joy goes for a quick armbar but Enoch quickly escapes into guard. Mike looks for an omaplata. Joy has butterfly guard and goes for a leg lock but Enoch escapes back into full guard. Joy goes for another armbar but misses. The pace is still blistering. Enoch lands a nice shot and Joy goes for another armbar and then a triangle choke. Wilson can’t really get any good ground and pound going. He finally lands two good elbows to the body of Joy. Enoch finishes with a couple more good elbows to the face of Mike. It was a close round that could go either way. I score the round 10/9 for Joy.
  • Round 3: Wilson throws two quick head kicks that are deflected. Joy shoots and takes down Enoch who starts to elbow the head. Tied up in the ropes the ref pulls the fighters out a little. Joy takes the back of Wilson and finally sinks in the hooks. Wilson controls the arm and they roll with Joy ending up on top. Joy controls from the top but isn’t doing much but laying on Enoch. Mike tries to trap an arm and Wilson gets back to his feet. They trade and then clinch up against the ropes. The round ends with a stalemate in the clinch. I score the round 10/9 for Mike Joy.
  • Round 4: Enoch keeps firing head kicks to start the round. Joy shoots in and catches a left knee that sends Joy to la la land. Enoch knows it is over and begins to celebrate before the ref steps in to stop the fight. Joy stands up and stumbles around almost falling down.

  • Final Result: Enoch Wilson wins via KO (Knee) at 0:28 in the 4th round.
