Sherdog.com just broke the news that Paul Filho has entered a rehab clinic and will not be fighting Chael Sonnen at WEC 33 on March 26. The news cam from Filho’s manager, Jorge Guimaraes who said that he and his team tried their best to get him to fight. Jorge also said that Paul did everything he could to accomplish his title defense. |

Filho realized he couldn’t defend his title due to chemical dependence and depression. Jorge is happy that he looked for help. After two days of searching for Filho, his teammates found out that he had checked himself into a rehabilitation clinic in Niteroi, Brazil. Guimaraes says that after 48 hours of being in treatment, Paul is feeling better, but the length of his stay is unknown for now. Jorge says that he will stay until he is 100%. While this is a huge blow to Filho’s fans who were expecting to see him fight on the 26th, don’t worry, Filho will be back in June to defend his title. Guimaraes added that the WEC was totally understanding of the situation and that Filho has learned who his true friends are through this unfortunate situation. There is no news yet of who will replace Filho at WEC 33 or if they will just scrap the fight all together. The Filho vs Sonnen rematch was suppose to settle the score from their first controversial fight at WEC 31. Their first fight was stopped after Chael screamed in pain from the agony of a Filho armbar. Sonnen argued with the ref that he did not tap which is in fact true. Filho remains undefeated at 16-0. |
