For the first time ever in the history of U.S. Mixed Martial Arts a female fighter has tested positive for steroids. Taking the honors is Brazilian, Carina Damm, who was formerly known as "MMA Barbie". According to the California State Athletic Commission, Carina "Beauty But The Beast" Damm has tested positive for Nandrolone. The substance was found after tests were conducted following her submission victory over Sophie Bagherdai at Femme Fatale Fighting 4 in Los Angeles on April 3. CSAC official, Bill Douglas, released an email on Friday reporting Carina’s test results which revealed that Damm had a nanogram count of 37.9 ng/mL, which is way over the 2ng/mL limit that is allowed. |

Things are not looking good for Damm who was scheduled to face Debi Purcell at ShoXC on June 27 in San Diego. She has been suspended from competition for one year and must pay a $2,500 fine. She will get a chance however to request a hearing in front of the CSAC in which she can appeal her suspension and request a lighter sentence. Carina Damm holds a record of 9-3 and is undefeated in her last four matches. She first received recognition back in 2006 when she fought under Calvin Ayre’s fight promotion, BodogFIGHT. Carina has fought once since being tested at Femme Fatale Fighting 4 back in April. She took on Lashonda Knox at Freestyle Combat Challenge 35 on May 5th and put Knox to sleep with a flying knee that took only 11 seconds in the first round. Stay close for more hardcore MMA news! |
