Details regarding Affliction’s second show "Day of Reckoning" were disclosed this afternoon by Affliction VP Tom Atencio at a press conference in Vegas. On top of confirming a partial fight card for the Oct. 11 event, Atencio also confirmed that HDNet will broadcast three preliminary bouts that will air prior to the main seven-bout card. |
|
Atencio officially announced two PPV bouts and two of the night’s three preliminary bouts. The two main card bouts announced were Vladimir Matyushenko vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Matt Lindland vs Vitor Belfort. As we stated in the previous post, the Belfort vs Lindland fight depends on the outcome of Vitor’s lingering hand injury. The two preliminary bouts announced were Jason High vs Mike Pyle and Paul Buentello vs Roy Nelson. IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson was originally rumored to be facing Xtreme Couture’s Jay White in what would have been a one-sided affair, but apparently the bout fell apart last minute. Atencio also revealed that the winner of the main event between Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett will likely face the current WAMMA heavyweight title holder Fedor Emelianenko in a future event. Fedor, originally expected to compete on the Oct. 11 card, was stricken from the event due to a hand injury he suffered in his bout with Sylvia. Update: Aleksander Emelianenko out, Horodecki in Due to ongoing licensing issues, Aleksander Emelianenko will not be a part of Affliction’s second event. Atencio said that the organization unfortunately had to move on without him. The Russian has been the center of a media storm surrounding the last minute cancellation of his bout with Paul Buentello at Affliction "Banned." Following the event, rumors surfaced that Aleksander was forced to withdrawal from the bout after testing positive for Hepatitis B. Aleksander denied the rumors in a video interview and claimed he was simply late in getting his Visa. Tickets for Affliction "Day of Reckoning" go on sale this Saturday. Stand by for more updates! |

The hype surrounding Affliction’s encore event "Day of Reckoning," which was officially announced on Monday, is already gaining momentum. Here are the latest updates for the Oct. 11 event which features a main event between Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett. Round 1: Jay Hieron Could Make Affliction Debut |

|
An opponent has yet to be determined for the 32 year old UFC veteran who’s explosive style carried him all the way to the top of the IFL’s ranks. Hieron was on a roll leading into the IFL’s financial troubles and eventual downfall. He defeated Delson Heleno in December to capture the IFL welterweight title and successfully defended the belt once against Mark Miller in April with a first round TKO. While Affliction’s focus has been mainly on the heavyweight division, the organization has promised to begin acquiring fighters for the lighter divisions. Round 2: Vitor Belfort vs Matt Lindland in Jeopardy Vitor was suspended for 180 days following the July bout by the California State Athletic Commission due to undisclosed medical reasons. It seems apparent now that the hand injury was the cause of his suspension. Belfort can still be cleared by a doctor but any further signs of a hand injury would most likely eliminate his chance of an October return. Round 3: Tito Ortiz’s Confirms Deal with Affliction
There was a possibility that the marquee signing would be made official during a press conference that Affliction held today announcing their next card "Day of Reckoning" but the announcement never came. Ortiz is expected to face Renato Sobral at the upcoming Oct. 11 event. Along with bringing his brash personality and raw sense of humor to the organization, Tito also guarantees to bring along his dedicated fan base which he claims will push Affliction’s PPV buys over the half a million mark.

According to the Sports Navigator, "Kid" Yamamoto will be out of commission for the remainder of the year due to a ligament tear in his knee that he suffered during a sparring session. This is the same injury that prevented him from competing in DREAM.5 a couple weeks ago. The injury was originally diagnosed as a partial ligament tear but has since been re-diagnosed as a complete tear which is much more serious. "Kid" went under the blade yesterday to repair the ligament. The surgery was a success and "Kid" is expected to make a full recovery within a year. |
|
Yamamoto hasn’t fought since New Years Eve when he took out Rani Yahya via punches and kicks at K-1’s "Premium 2007 Dynamite." He is on an amazing 14 fight win streak that includes victories over the likes of Royler Gracie, Caol Uno, and Genki Sudo. "Kid’s" one and only loss came at the hands of Stephen Palling at a Shooto event in May of 2002. Yamamoto was controlling the fight when it was stopped at the 30-second mark due to a cut that he received on a double leg shot. |

Things have gone from bad to worse for the former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson since his arrest for hit-and-run in Costa Mesa. According to the Daily Pilot, 38 year old Holli Griggs, the pregnant woman who was sideswiped by Jackson during his alleged hit-and-run incident, suffered a miscarriage and lost her 16 week old baby boy.

Charges have yet to be filed against Jackson. To be fair, prosecutors are taking their time with the evidence and medical info in the case to make sure the charges are accurate when filed. Holli’s Fiance, Bill Krebs, came forward on Friday with the news of his wife’s tragic loss. The couples first sign of concern came when Doctors at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Anaheim noticed a significant loss of fluid inside Griggs’ womb following the accident. Ironically, just days before the incident, the couple was told that Holli "had enough fluid for three babies." Jackson’s downward spiral began on July 15 when he attempted to outrun the Costa Mesa Police Department following the hit-and-run.
To add insult to injury, Jackson was picked up by police the following day and taken to a hospital for observation after the cops deemed him a danger to himself and others. A little over a week later, there were reports that Jackson was delusional and claiming to be "God." (Photo courtesy of TwoSeven.) |

According to MMA News, a heavyweight bout between IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson and Xtreme Couture fighter Jay White has been added to Affliction’s rapidly growing "Day of Reckoning" fight card set for October 11 in Vegas. The bout will compliment the heavyweight main attraction between Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett. MMA News confirmed the cards latest addition with Jay White during the International MMA Expo this past weekend in Long Beach.

Roy "Big Country" Nelson, one of many reported IFL fighters who were released last week, will head into his bout with White on a five fight win streak. Nelson stopped all four of his last opponents with punches. Jay White has struggled throughout his professional career winning only two of his seven total fights. He recently turned around a 4 fight losing streak with a victory over Patrick Castillo at HDNet Fights "Reckless Abandon" in December of last year. However, three of those losses came at the hands of Jake O’Brien and Jeff Monson who silenced him twice with submissions. Stay tuned for more breaking MMA news! |
